Alpha1Media launches A1Film Preview 2024

London, UK (11 January 2024): Global media and entertainment film Alpha1Media on January 11 launched its acclaimed annual list of the top most anticipated films from around the world which cinema audiences can look forward to watching in 2024, with Hollywood and other film centres moving to stabilise its cinema strategy after industry disruptions in 2023.

The 13th edition of the A1Film Top Movies Preview for 2024 highlights 10 essential films, and in total 82 interesting films from primarily Hollywood, but also from around the world, which global cinema audiences can look forward tothis year.

“2023 was projected to be ‘The Year of Cinematic Inflection’ as global popular cinema in 2023 witnessed an inflection in the diversification and expansion of content and genres for cinema,” said Talal Malik, Alpha1Media Founder and Film Writer-Producer. “It was a rebalancing between innovative, original auteur-led content and superhero blockbusters, as even A1Film Top 10 2023 expanded to 17 films, with a mixture of studio-produced films and those produced by new production entities such as Apple; while Hollywood, in the the centennial anniversary of the iconic Hollywood sign, faced a year of inflection, with the confluence of the challenges of diversification of movies at the box office, the uber-challenge of A.I. and the impact on people and talent, with union strikes for months for both writers and actors.”

“That proved to be true, with Hollywood auteurs Christopher Nolan making a billion dollars with ‘Oppenheimer’, joint No. 2 on the A1Film Top 10 Films 2023  with Martin Scorsese’s first-time pairing Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio in  ‘Flowers of the Killer Moon’, but as an inflection, being trumped as a truly spectacular cinematic movie not just by a superhero but, for the first time, an animated one by ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, becoming the No. 1 on the A1Film Top 10 Films 2023 and the A1Film Best Picture Winner 2023.”

Global box offices revenues are estimated to have shot up by 30.5% to $33.9 billion in 2023 compared 2022, but are estimated to fall in 2024 to $31.5 billion, and far from pre-pandemic revenues in 2019 at $42.3 billion.

“However, 2024, as a result of 2023’s union strikes in Hollywood by actors and directors, the disruptions for A.I. and the continued challenges of streaming versus cinematic films, leadership disruptions at major studios, and the under-performance of superhero blockbusters, looks to be potentially a ‘A Year of Cinematic Industry Reconstitution’, as the industry reconstitutes itself after 2023’s disruptions, and prepare to move gears in 2025 and beyond, while still delivering top blockbusters, the first four major director sequels, across the year: Denis Villeneuve much-delayed sequel to ‘Dune’, the No. 2 on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2021, ‘Dune: Part Two’, finally releasing; Todd Phillipsdirecting Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga in the sequel to  ‘Joker’, the No. 2 film on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2019, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’; George Miller’s prequel to ‘Max Max: Fury Road’, No. 2 on A1Film Top 10 Movies 2015 ,‘Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’; Ridley’s Scott’s sequel to ‘Gladiator’ with Denzel Washington, ‘Gladiator 2’, Bong Joon Ho’s first English movie after ‘Parasite’, No 4 on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2019 and the A1Film Awards 2019   Best Foreign Film, with Robert Pattinson, ‘Mickey 17’; Jon Watts, who directed ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, No. 1 on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2021 and the A1Film Awards 2021  Best Picture, teams up Brad Pitt and George Clooney’s‘Wolfs’; Barry Levinson, Nicholas Pillegi, the co-writer of ‘Goodfellas’, and Robert De Niro, who last appeared in ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’, No. 2 on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2019, ‘Alto Knights’; Taylor Hackford’s first time since ‘The Devil’s Advocate’ directing Al Pacino, who was in ‘The Irishman’, No. 3 on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2019 and first teams up with Morgan Freeman in ‘Sniff’; Sony Spider-Man universe, which produced  ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, the No. 1 on the A1Film Top 10 Films 2023 and the A1Film Best Picture Winner 2023, makes the triple movies of ‘Madame Web’, ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and ‘Untitled Venom Sequel’ and cinematic Sylvester Stallone, who starred in the No. 1 film on the A1Film Top 10 Movies 2015 with ‘Creed’ in ‘Armored’.
